Still can't believe it...

On the day Roc Raida is laid to rest, the Nocturnal Sound Krew would like to send our condolences to Raida's Fam and friends... It is still tough to think about one of the greatest Turntablists ever has passed on.

On a personal note, He was the reason I was so determined to DJ. This clip of the 94 US DMC Finals was my introduction to Roc Raida. I must have watched and studied this particular routine Hundreds of times. Attitude, Skills, Funk, and Soul... It blew my mind and changed me forever. Roc Raida, truly one of the best.
Rest in Peace.

Empire State of Mind

An actual update? Yes, I know at times this page can start to become the "best of Youtube" at times, but we wanna let you know that we are on our grizzle and got tons of cool stuff for you and yours... so, let's start it like this:

This party keeps getting better and better... typically saturdays are a tough draw in Downtown, but you would never know this if you come thru to SHAKE + POP! If we don't have the best Party (which I humbly do believe), at least we got the best flyers... BLAME IT ON THE A-A-A-A-A-ALCOHOL!

Also that evening, check DJ Eskae wearing something Neon colored (I heard he is leaning towards something pink)

This sunday is the Fresh Cafe & Aloha De Nime Grand Opening Party... we'll be there supporting the fam! Congrats Tiff!

We are super excited for this month's SOUL CLAP for two reasons. 1.) It is the after party for the 2by2 benefit (awesome!). 2.) This month's guest DJ is a huge influence to the Nocturnal Sound Krew... DJ SUB-ZERO Hailing from the infamous STONE GROOVE FAMILY! Man, coming up, I remember vividly going to parties in the 90's where Sub-Zero would be KILLING IT. Nevermind these New school cats doin a term paper while spinning, this guy has Flav! Truly an honor to have this dude on deck!

Our sister crew the HOT MUFFINS have a banger in there hands with this one! none other than Dim Mak's STEVE AOKI is coming to Hawaii. Do I really need to hype this one up? thought so.

De La Soul. Biz Markie. Tassho Pearce. Noc Boys. Pow!

Forgive the emo picture, but we feel it is appropriate... It is about a month away before our own DJ JAMI moves to the New York!!! So this is an added incentive for everyone to come and swang with us before he leaves to takeover the Big Apple! NSK in NYC!

J.Cole - The Warm Up

Featured on "A Star is Born" on Jay-Z's Blueprint 3, J.Cole is Hov's first artist his new Label called RocNation. Sounds like the ROC has a winner with this soulful cat. Clap for 'em.

Roc Raida!

We would like to wish our best to the Grandmaster Roc Raida (*X-Men)on a speedy recovery. One of the best and defintiely the baddest who ever did it... "put on your addidas, and STEP OFF, I got to have it!".

*I remember copping this X-Men Documentary at Sera's back in the day and was blown the fuck away by the beat juggles of Roc Raida, Rob Swift and Mista Sinista.... here's the "Method Man" juggle that I tried to do a million times...

Shine

----props to My Fam at Kicks/HI for always supporting the crew and always bringing that fresh shit to this little island of ours.

the infamous "Aloha Dunk" was given some dap on one of the 50 Best dunks of all time from Complex Magazine. It's a very good look!

12. Nike Dunk Low “Aloha” (Kicks Hawaii)
YEAR OF RELEASE: 2004
• "The Kicks/Hi Dunk was part of the Jesse Leyva early days (same w/the Wu-Tang and Pharrell Dunks), part of a shop series designed to build up the Nike brand amongst the cool kids. The Hawaiian-based retailer, and homie Ian Ginoza included design cues that were, as you can see, Hawaiian-inspired. In addition to having “ALOHA” on the heel, and “HAWAII” on the tounge, the middle of the upper features a Hawaiian-styled weave made out of bamboo called “Lauhala.”

Man on the Moon

now that Blueprint 3 came thru and smashed it... next up to bat is the homie KID CUDI with his much anticipated album "Man on the Moon: The End Of Day". Real Talk, his mixtape "A Kid Named Cudi" is probably better than most actual albums put out in a long time... so I can't wait to hear what the Cudder has in store! G.O.O.D. Music!!!!!

so, to hold you off until that album leaks, here is a cut that I don't think is on the album, but is reeeeeeal nice!
